Private Sector Deposits and Performance of Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria

This paper critically considered the relationship amid private sector deposits and performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria for period 1990-2019. Private Sector Deposits was proxied by demand deposits, Deposit Savings time while Performance Return on Assets all reviewed. Secondary data obtained from website Central Bank statistical bulletin Nigerian Insurance Corporation (NDIC). We conducted Pretest using Augmented Dickey- fuller (ADF) test statistic to unit root. A mix order integration observed. The ARDL thereafter used estimate equation, bounds result showed long run relationship. short revealed negative at some lag periods, there no significant Nigeria. results a weak variables. These has so far exposed fact that funds such as savings with Money Banks do not significantly influence DMBs except they are investment decisions. study concludes recommends that, (1) Demand custody should be kept unutilized. (2) At period, invested options would yield positive return investments. (3) regulate level depositories ensure sustained financial stability
